Effective January 1, 2024, Founding Partner Joseph Sweeney transitioned to Senior Counsel and Director of Operations for Sweeney Mason. Since forming Sweeney, Mason, and Wilson in 1990. Joe has managed the firm for thirty-four years. In his new role he will continue to practice law, mentor associates, and help guide the firm.
Joe graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1974 with a BA in Business Administration and an emphasis in accounting. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1977, as a member of the McAuliffe Honor Society. He has an AV Preeminent rating, the highest possible rating from Lexis-Nexis Martindale-Hubbell.
Since 1978, Joe has focused on construction and real estate law, both transactional and litigation. He has successfully represented owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers and design professionals in multiple aspects of construction law issues through negotiations, disputes, mediations, arbitrations, and trials. He has served as a mediator for numerous construction and real estate disputes.
Joe also practiced as a licensed real estate broker handling multiple transactions and property management including commercial office buildings, apartments, and storage facilities. He has litigated numerous real estate disputes involving leases, non-disclosures, purchase agreements and loan documents.
Joe has served on the Boards of AGCC (Santa Clara District), the American Subcontractor Association Bay Area Chapter (ASA), the University of Notre Dame Alumni Club of Silicon Valley, St. Mary’s School of Los Gatos, Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce, and the Los Gatos Christmas Foundation.
Joe and his wife Terry recently moved to the Dallas – Fort Worth Metro area in Texas to be near his six children and seven grandchildren.
