James Huang is a civil litigator with extensive experience in federal and California state courts. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation, including business, real estate, and employment disputes. He represents corporate, individual, and fiduciary clients in matters involving breach of contract, fraud, partnership and shareholder disputes.

James has extensive experience in both state and federal courts through trial and evidentiary hearings. His background includes handling summary judgment, expert discovery, and settlement negotiations in multimillion-dollar disputes. He regularly advises business clients on risk management, governance, and compliance issues, and has represented public entities and private clients in bankruptcy, tax recovery, and administrative proceedings.

Before joining Sweeney Mason, James served as Deputy City Attorney for the City of San José, where he managed complex civil rights, tort, and municipal cases, including high-profile protest litigation and settlement negotiations. Earlier in his career, he also advised technology companies and start-ups on intellectual property, transactional, and corporate matters.

James earned his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School, and holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Philosophy from Emory University. He is admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
